In a tweet, illustrator Chikuwa voiced accusations of plagiarism, explaining that a promotional poster he made for Comiket 97 in December 2019 was used in the anime adaptation without his permission. The poster can be seen in the background of a scene in the 17th episode. As usual, you can find the two corresponding images at the end of our article for comparison.

The studio apologized with a statement on the anime adaptation’s website, stating that the background in question would be immediately removed from all streaming, television and disc versions. Chikuwa noted the apology, but still expressed disappointment that he had not been contacted personally.

The reboot of “Urusei Yatsura,” which launched in October 2022, is simulcast on HIDIVE with English subtitles and Crunchyroll with English subtitles. The first anime adaptation comprises 195 episodes and was seen from October 1981 to March 1986.
